Common Questions and Answers

Q: How much do I need per acre?

A: Depends on how dense the weeds are on the acre, but generally speaking, 14 gallons of AllDown Concentrate, mixed with 42 gallons of water will make 56 gallons of herbicide for good coverage on one acre.

Be sure to use "enough" product so that the top growth of the weed will be properly dessicated (burn down effect on the leaf's surface & stem). The product should be sprayed until it beads up on the plant.

Q: Does it matter what time of day I treat the weeds with AllDown?

A: Apply after dew has evaporated, when skies are mostly sunny and no rainfall or irrigation is predicted within 8 hours of application.  An overcast day is also fine to spray if rain is unlikely.  Additionally, it's best to use when the air is calm and temperatures are between 65° and 90° F.

Q: Someone told me I should kill weeds before winter sets in, aren't they going to die in the first frost anyways?

A: Using an AllDown in the fall before the first frost is an excellent way to weaken the plant before it goes dormant for the winter. As the days get shorter, plants are storing sugars in their root system.  By interupping this activity with an organic herbicide dessicant, perennial broadleafed weeds will have a much harder time making it through the winter and reemerging in the spring.

Q: I have some tall Canadian Thistle that is really hard to get rid of...will AllDown work on it?

A: If your weeds are tall, you may want to mow/whack them down first, then quickly follow with an application of AllDown so that while they are in shock from mowing the open stems will allow the product to get deeper into the weed and finish them off (and you'll use less product). For stubborn perennial weeds (like Canadian thistle) you will need stay ahead of them with a second application, and possibly more if they reemerge. Whatever you do, don't let them get to seed, or pull them, as this will stimulate more shoots and growth of the root system.

Q: I have some weeds in my lawn. Is it possible to use AllDown in my grass to remove the weeds?

A: Actually, improving the soils will work much better for reducing the impact of weeds in a lawn. AllDown is a spot application and we don't recommend using AllDown for treating weeds in turf or lawns.

Q: I have some weeds along my fence and in my driveway. Will this product be effective for removing these weeds.

A: Spraying weeds along a fence line and in a driveway is an excellent use of AllDown. We recommend weed eating the weeds along the fence if they are large, to help reduce the need for excess volume of the product for your application.

Q: I would like to clear off an acre of pasture. Can I use your product?

A: The best route would be to flame the area and then apply AllDown to the impacted areas when the weeds re-emerge. We recommend using some soil amendments to return the balance of the soils to also remediate the area, so the impact of the weeds is reduced.

Q: Will your product work on Knapweed and other noxious weeds like yellow toadflax
and leafy spurge?

A: AllDown Herbicide Concentrate will work on those tough noxious weeds (knap, spurge, and toadflax), but repeat application is key, and there are several things to consider.  September is a good month to hit the weeds with AllDown before they go dormant for the winter. (The burn down/desiccation of the plant material/leaves by the product interrupts their ability to store sugars in their root system, making them less likely to return in the spring.)

Is your knapweed spotted, diffuse, or Russian?  The first two are easier to control since they just have a tap root (and can just be pulled if it is a small area), but the Russian has a deep root system and behaves similar to Canadian thistle.  Leafy spruge and yellow toadflax also have tenacious root systems, making them hard to completely eradicate if they have taken over an area.   If your land has a lot of these 3, and is is supposed to be pasture or rangeland, we suggest the following:

1) Fall: saturate the leaves/plant material with AllDown early in the day after the dew has burned off, when there is no chance of rain in the forecast. If your weeds are 2-3 ft tall, you can mow/ weed wack them down first, then immediately spray AllDown.

2) Follow up with a soil conditioner, such as our Lot 125, to increase soil fertility and seed germination in the fall, spring, and summer, and re-seed with desirable plants/grass to crowd out the undesirable weeds when appropriate.

3) Early Spring: hit new growth weeds with AllDown early and repeatedly, to discourage the weed system from getting larger & stronger.

4) If your weed situation continues to be extensive in size, consider introducing a biological control insect specific to each type of weed, to use in the high summer when they are most effective.

5) Next-Fall: hit the weeds again before they go dormant.  Continue to treat the soil with a Lot 125.

Again, these are tough weeds to get rid of and will take a comittment on your part to stay ahead of them from taking over more land.  The combination of AllDown, improving your soil, adding desirable plants, and specific insects, each item at the right time and frequency will allow you to get your land back in balance.

Q: I live in Canada. Can you tell me how to locate your product in my area?

A: We do not have licensing for this product to be shipped outside of the United States. As approvals are gained, we'll publish this information on our website, but at this time international shipping is not possible.
